  2. GFS Monarch

When it comes to choosing the perfect saddle for your riding adventures, navigating the wide range of options can be quite daunting. Among the many renowned brands, GFS and Monarch have gained recognition for their high-quality saddles. But what sets them apart, and how do you decide which one is right for you and your horse?

In this blog, we'll explore the key differences between GFS and Monarch saddles to help you make an informed choice.

What are GFS Saddles?

GFS is a British saddle brand which has become extremely popular due to its adjustable gullet which means the width of the saddle can easily be altered. Not to mention, all GFS saddles are within an affordable price point which makes them a well loved brand.

GFS offer three key ranges of saddles with a wide range of models to suit a range of different conformations. The three key ranges include; the GFS Monarch, GFS Transition range, GFS Premier range. Monarch saddles as they have been traditionally known, have recently been rebranded as GFS Monarch, and instead of their own 'brand' they are now integrated as part of the GFS family, hence now being called GFS Monarch. Within the GFS Monarch saddles range you will find saddles to suit all disciplines and a variety of conformations including Cob saddles and high wither saddles. The GFS transition range comprises of a selection of models including standard wither GP and Jump saddles, as well as Cob GP and Jump saddles. The GFS Premier range comprises of a monoflap dressage, and a monoflap jump saddle. GFS also provide a PX range of models, including a dressage and jump saddle, which is aimed at petite riders.

GFS saddles boast the following features across their ranges:

  • Luxurious calf skin leather which is double stitched for maximum comfort and grip.
  • Siliconised wool flocking, which allows movement, adjustability, and prevents bunching.
  • X change girthing points.
  • Moulded knee blocks which can be customised to suit the riders leg.
  • X-change gullet system, with GFS gullet bars available here.

They also offer a fabulous selection of bridles, girths and stirrup leathers, so you can have a full matching set of tack!

How to Choose?

The choice between GFS and Monarch ultimately depends on your riding preferences, budget, and the needs of your horse. Consider the following factors:

  • Riding Discipline: Determine your primary riding discipline. GFS may be more suitable if you require specialised features for dressage or showjumping, while Monarch could be a practical choice for a happy hacker or all-rounder.
  • Budget: Evaluate your budget constraints. Monarch's affordability makes it an attractive option for riders on a tighter budget.
  • Customisation: If your horse has unique conformation requirements, GFS's customisable saddles might be the better fit.
  • Performance vs Aesthetics: Consider whether you want to prioritise saddle performance or the visual appeal of your saddle. GFS often offers a blend of both, while Monarch focuses more on performance.

In conclusion, both GFS and Monarch have their unique strengths and cater to different riders' needs. Carefully assess your riding style, budget, and customisation requirements to make an informed decision. Whichever brand you choose, rest assured that both GFS and Monarch are committed to enhancing your riding experience with quality saddles.
