Bates Saddle

I recieved my quote very quickly, the service was fantastic and the money from the sale was in my bank within days. It took all the hassle out of selling a saddle that was surplus to requirements.

Great customer service, all queries I had were solved very quickly. I bought a lovely Bates Victrix of which both me and my horse absolutely love! But I also sold two saddles to you which I have never done before so it was all very new to me as to what I had to do but you all made it so easy giving me step by step instructions and I'm so happy knowing both saddles are in great hands and hopefully someone will make great use of them instead of them sat around collecting dust in my tackroom.

Couldn’t fault the saddle selling process. Communication was excellent and it really took the stress out of selling. Fast payment too. Would use again!

Kent and masters GP

Bought a second saddle this week after such good service purchasing a dressage saddle earlier in the month. Exactly as described and a super easy process. 😊

Quick and easy sale of saddle

I was sceptical of sending off my saddle at first, as most would be sending something of value without the payment before hand. But I am so glad I did, from the moment I had an offer to buy my saddle, too the payment in my bank was little over a week. No hassle, no messing, straight toward. Would definitely do it again!

Excellent service. Again!

Second time I’ve sold through the saddle bank and it was super easy, hassle free and a pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend

Outstanding

Ordered a saddle, sadly saddler couldn’t come in the 5 day trial period (my fault!) unfortunately the saddle was slightly too long for my horse. Had the saddle 10 days, rung customer services and asked to swap the saddle for another, DPD picked up the first saddle the next day and once returned the second one was sent and received extremely quickly. Absolutely refreshing service, no battles or getting sent round in circles, cannot fault any part of the team. Have since recommended the company to others at the yard and they’ve had a faultless experience with the company too. A breath of fresh air! Also bought a girth and again, straightforward and hassle free. Would recommend 10 times over

How the trial works

Saddles are permitted on a 5 day UK mainland trial. Simply add the saddle to your basket and proceed to check out. The trial starts on the day you receive the saddle.
Full payment is taken for the saddle at the point of check out. If the saddle fits – great! No further action required.

Is your fitter not coming until next week? No problem!
Select your delivery date at check out. Please note we recommend having the saddle delivered 2 working days before your saddle fitting appointment in case of any unexpected delays with the courier.

Sadly we are not able to offer a trial internationally at present. However, most of our international clients still find it cheaper to import a quality saddle from UK than to source one in their own country.
Read full details on how the trial works here.

It also features an adjustable gullet tree, so the width can easily be altered by swapping out the gullet bars.

Clean and Care Guidelines
GFS only use traditional leathers, developed especially for saddle-making.

These leathers are natural, so colour blemishes, marks and scars are part of the natural beauty of the leather and are not a fault.

For this reason, care of the leather and consideration in use is crucial to the performance of your GFS saddle.

The life of your saddle is dependent upon maintaining the natural oils and greases in the leather.

We only recommend, using ‘natural‘ products on your GFS saddle and those specially designed for use with ‘equestrian leathers‘, not those associated with the care and or cleaning of ‘car seats and or leathers designed for home use.

You MUST NOT use a ‘spray cleaner‘ when cleaning.

CLEANING
To clean we recommend wiping with a ‘damp cloth/sponge‘ to remove dirt and debris that may otherwise, scratch the surface of the leather, and then clean with a ‘glycerine saddle soap.

Cleaning should take place, once a week (dependent upon use) or after use in an environment where the riding surface is disturbed and rises onto your saddle.

To maintain the natural suppleness of the leather, we recommend the following:

PRIOR TO FIRST USE
You MUST, dress your saddle with NAF Shere Luxe ‘Leather Balsam‘ as this rich wax– based Balsam will enrich the leather of your new saddle prior to use.

An alternative reputable brand is acceptable.

You should liberally dress and leave overnight, to ensure maximum penetration into the leather, which will both seal in moisture and protect your saddle.

STIRRUP LEATHERS
You MUST NOT, use either ‘synthetic‘ stirrup leathers or those with a nylon face, they will act as an abrasive to the surface of the leather.

We also recommend that a good quality leather girth be used, rather than one made from any kind of fabric or synthetic material.

ONGOING CARE
After cleaning, weekly, you should replenish and rejuvenate the moisture content of the leather.

Lightly dress the surface with the Balsam, to maintain moisture content and protection.

ESPECIALLY take EXTRA care in high-wear areas, such as:

Areas that are in contact with girth buckles and Billet straps.
Friction rub areas, such as where the stirrup leathers rub on the Flap.
If your saddle leathers are treated in this way, you should over time, achieve the traditional beauty of an age-worked saddle, and expect many years of excellent service.

CLOTHING & COLOUR LOSS
It is normal, especially if the surface of the leather is ‘damp‘, to experience some colour loss onto your breeches.

For this reason, we recommend that appropriate clothing is selected, especially when the saddle is new, and has received treatment with a leather care product.

Once the saddle has been used once or twice, most of this colour loss should disappear, unless the saddle surface has been made ‘damp‘ after cleaning.
